When it comes to a photo booth's space requirements, you need to account not just for the equipment but also for the backdrop, the group being photographed, and the waiting guests. SelfieBox specifies a minimum of 1.5 × 1.5 metres, and with a backdrop, about 2.5 × 2.5 metres is the recommended starting point.
On a floor plan, everything is a neat, regular rectangle. At the actual event, though, someone is adjusting their coat, someone else is picking a prop, and a third person is already calling their friends over. The photo corner needs to be able to handle all these movements too.
The minimum isn't the whole guest area
The measurements on the SelfieBox spec sheet give you a baseline for planning the setup. The waiting and walking lane needs to be designated on top of that. There shouldn't be a busy walkway directly behind the group being photographed either.
For group photos of up to ten people, it's worth checking the actual layout separately. With larger groups, the shooting distance, the width of the backdrop, and the visibility of everyone's face all matter together. A smaller free corner isn't automatically suitable for every group size.
Visible, but not in the way
A good spot can be near a casual conversation area where guests naturally pass by. A congestion point in front of the entrance, the buffet, or the restrooms, however, can be uncomfortable. Review the walking routes together with the venue's contact person too.
When choosing the placement, also think about lighting and noise. Strong backlight disrupting the shots, or a speaker running right next to it, can hurt the overall comfort. A short on-site test can resolve a lot of uncertainty.
Give the small table a role too
Props shouldn't end up on the floor or mixed in with guests' belongings. An easily reachable small table helps with choosing items and putting them back. Plan the pickup point for finished prints so it doesn't get in the way of the next photo session.
A nearby wall outlet is important too. Work out the cable routing together with the on-site technician, and make sure there's genuine access to the area for setup.
Different service, different layout
The Selfie Swap spec sheet lists a minimum of 1 × 1 metre, but the guest area is added on top here as well. The Instant Photo photographer moves around, but printing may need a separate table.
Send us a floor plan or venue photo with your quote request, and include the dimensions of the available space. That way, the photo corner will truly have the room it needs at your event.
