For outdoor photo booth use, proper shelter, stable placement, power supply and an agreed weather backup plan are essential. The outdoor atmosphere is only truly enjoyable when both the equipment and the guests' comfort have been planned in advance.

A garden, a terrace or a festival venue can provide a beautiful backdrop. Sunshine, however, isn't an event technician: it won't notice the screen glare, and it won't arrange a rain plan for you either.

Shelter needs to be a real solution

The equipment needs a dry, stable spot that's properly protected from the weather. Check the suitability of a tent or pavilion together with the venue and the service provider; a decorative parasol alone doesn't offer full protection.

Have an alternative spot designated in advance in case you need to move due to weather. Also work out when this decision can be made and who will signal the change. Looking for a spot among furniture in the middle of the event is much harder than planning a covered point in advance.

The direction of the sun matters too

Direct, strong light can make the screen hard to read and can affect the photography conditions. Work with the service provider to choose a setup that will still work during the planned operating hours. A morning site visit doesn't necessarily show the afternoon conditions.

Plan the SelfieBox photo point and any background together. Waiting guests should also have a comfortable, safe area that doesn't cross a busy walkway.

Power and network at the actual venue

Coordinate the power supply with the event's technical lead. Leave the outdoor cabling and protection setup to a competent on-site specialist. No loose cables should be left in the guests' walking path.

Also check the network needed for online operation right at the spot where the service will run. Selfie Swap, for example, requires stable Telekom or Yettel 4G coverage as a condition; Instant Photo also needs an adequate mobile network connection.

One more question for multi-day events

Who looks after the equipment outside operating hours, and where can it be stored safely? It's worth clarifying this together with setup and teardown. The logistics of festivals and outdoor family days involve more than just designating a single photo corner.

Send us the details of your outdoor venue, so a working plan can be created alongside the great visuals.
